I am free to be me!

When I first moved to Oregon 6 years ago I loved going dancing.  My favorite music to dance to then was Bhangra a sort of Indian hip hop.  I also loved wearing things that sparkled on the dance floor, this shirt was a favorite.

The blue necklace was my Grandma's and the other was Grandma Barbaras.  I love them both!
Another kick ass floral creation.  I buy the flowers and headband at the 99 cent store so they really only cost a few bucks to make several.  Do you ladies have the 99 cent store in the UK and Australia?

I may be all smiles in these photos but today I'm sad.  The world lost two journalists today in Syria: Marie Colvin and Remi Ochlik.  While I write about fashion and shopping these two were risking their lives on the front line to bring us images and stories about people fighting for basic freedoms.  People like this are selfless and deserve to be honored for caring more about others than themselves.
"Our mission is to speak the truth to power," she said. "We send home that first rough draft of history. We can and do make a difference in exposing the horrors of war and especially the atrocities that befall civilians." Marie Colvin

These are some of the images Remi Ochlik has snapped with his camera and a whole lot of bravery.

It appears Syria is on the brink of Civil war.

Top post, darling.
I was gutted to hear about Mary Colvin. She was only on the news last night talking about the situation in Syria. Certainly puts things into perspective. xxxxx

I just heard about the journos this morning, too sad, such brave people doing their level best to bring us the facts.I suppose we can seem frivolous in the face of this kind of thing. That's our choice, and they made theirs,I guess.

Bhangra-fabulous! I love that sparkly top, it's so pretty and perfect with that gorgeous head piece! Now I need to see if there's any Bhangra going on in September so you can strut your stuff.
So sad about the journalists. The situation in Syria is appalling, maybe the loss of high profile people will finally get the powers that be to act responsibly and go and help the poor civilians.
We'd go mental if we focussed on the crappier aspects of life 24/7.
We have £1 shops here, too! They sell everything, you'll love them!
Love ya! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Looking gorgeous and sparkly, Krista!
God, there's so much dreadfulness in the world, I heard about the journalists on the radio when I was cooking tea, it's so awful.
Can we be interested and concerned about world events, yet still enjoy showing off a a new frock? Yes, I don't think those two things are mutually exclusive. You've shown that in this post. xxxxxxxx

We've always had pound shops, but they've recently been undercut by the 99p shop!

The whole situation in Syria is dreadful, so many families torn apart :(

What is happening in Syria right now is such a disgrace, and there just doesn't seem to be a way out of it. It just breaks my heart, I have read some media of the torture,etcc... that has occurred over there. I am so thankful I was born in NZ.

Also on a lighter note, I like things that sparkle and we have $2 shops in NZ.

So sad about the journalists, Remi Ochlik was a kickass artist. That first photo is gorgeous. Apart from that horrible new, you look adorable in that glittery top. :-) And I love your pink hair, of course!

I love you and your pink sparkly top, I bet you looked awesome dancing in that! Your floral head creations are so lovely, you should seriously consider opening an Etsy shop! You could create cute hello kitty styles, elegant gothic styles, kitsch styles, every single style imaginable! That would be awesome!

That is indeed very sad news about those who journalists! Remi looked really quite cute too! When is this world ever going to stop warring. We're more barbaric than when we were cavemen! xxx

I buy most of my flowers and headbands from the op shops and some from the cheapo stores - plus I already had a huge stash of them in the Shed of Glory!

Your lovely sparkly top is wonderful... would love to see your moves.

And I agree - losing those two amazing journalists is incredibly sad - what awesome, brave, gutsy people.

Love, Sarah xxx
